In so far as I am writting an essay on the self same story for my english composition class I quite clearly agree with you. "First Confession" is an entertaining story. I was reminded of a story by Brendan Behan which is concerned with his first communion. The title of the Behan story escapes me but it was published in the collection entitled "After the Wake". You are a reader of good taste.

I read this book when i was 16 years old. And even though studying in a convent gave me an insight into the life of a nun, this book was a more elaborate experience. Reading this book left you feeling strangely peaceful and elated in a very subtle fashion.

I came across your website and thought you might be interested in a story entitled "Lovely Peggy," which I hope is successful on both the literal and allegorical levels.

As of this date, December 22, 2008, it is on the home page of that website. In two weeks it will be accessible through the Archives on the site.

Thanks.

This site is a goldmine ! I am researching books for our parish library, as well as for my own personal reading list.

I would like to make a recommendation I haven't seen here yet:
The Shadow of His Wings: The True Story of Fr. Gereon Goldmann, OFM
I own this book, but can't find it on my shelf; not initially a gripping book, but a very interesting story. I wish someone would re-write it for young adults; make it shorter.

It would be very inspiring for those who may think they have a vocation to the priesthood, or just for a great read about a heroic Catholic priest.

In one scene (he is still a seminarian), he wants to brign Holy Communion to soldiers who are dying of their wounds. The Sacrament is being guarded by 2 priests on whom he draws a pistol and demands the hosts be given to him for this purpose!
